Motivate - Inspire – Challenge

Sport and Movement Development Specialists

The aim of Playball is to expose young children to constructive and enjoyable movement through a multi-activity programme.  We, at Playball, believe that creating a positive attitude towards sport and physical activity at an early age is the key to lifelong participation.

The programme follows a holistic approach and offers learning opportunities and experiences relating to the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development of the child.  Playball takes advantage of developmental windows of opportunity by providing a wide range of suitable movement skills and physical activities in a safe and secure environment - perfect for optimal learning!

At Playball, we help children develop fundamental building blocks of sport, agility balance and coordination, as well as the three key elements of physical fitness - endurance, strength and flexibility.

Children are also exposed to a range of different sports skills for tennis, cricket, hockey, rugby, football, basketball, baseball and volleyball.

How do the Playball programs work?

We have specialized programs for the following age groups:

·  Two year olds - Two can do

·  Three year olds -Watch me at three

·  Four year olds - Dinkies

·  Five year olds - Preps

·  Six year olds - Players

·  Seven and eight year olds - Pros

All of our programs are independent of each other and are taught accordingly, offering your child a completely different sporting experience and learning environment.

There are six age appropriate programs, each program lasting one year. In each program the children's developmental, emotional and physical needs are met. Each program has as one of its primary objectives to teach sport and movement and teach it properly, taking into account each age group's cognitive and emotional capabilities.  Each program has an impressive creative component that ensures that each lesson is both exciting and positive. The children are never bored and genuinely love the lessons.

OUR PROGRAM FOR TWO YEAR OLD CHILDREN

The two's program is age specific and suited to this particular development stage. In this program we lay down the basic foundation of movement in order to enable the child to accomplish more challenging sport related skills in later years. The focus of the two's the process involved of (the child) being exposed to a formal environment and to a variety of movement skills. This forms the basis of the two's program.

OUR PROGRAM FOR THREE YEAR OLD CHILDREN

This program covers the following basic areas and provides a sound foundation for the next age group.

1. Introduction to basic ball skills.
2. Development of student's enjoyment for sport.
3. Confidence to participate in sporting activities.
4. Social integration with other students.
5. Development of concentration.

The emphasis is on having fun and playing games with a ball so that the child's first introduction to sport is a happy and positive one.

OUR PROGRAM FOR FOUR YEAR OLD CHILDREN

This program covers the sections listed below and provides students with a solid grounding and a basic competence in ball skills. The children are exposed to a wide variety of different skills in each lesson. It is in this stage that they have the opportunity to practice the skills more rigorously developing competence.

1. Development of a wide variety of ball skills.
2. Emphasis on individual participation.
3. Overcoming the fears that dis-encourage sports participation.
4. Introduction to organized ball skill activities.

OUR PROGRAM FOR FIVE YEAR OLD CHILDREN

This program covers the more demanding ball skills, as it is essential that the necessary base be laid for the six popular sports that will be covered in the child's school environment.

1. Development of skills related to the sports played at school.
2. Introduction to basic teamwork.
3. Development of skills needed in a game situation.
4. Introduction to partner work.

OUR PROGRAM FOR SIX YEAR OLD CHILDREN

It is in this program that the children are actually involved in playing the sports. Successful completion of this program provides students with the skills necessary to play the game, as well as knowledge of the basic rules related to each sport.

1. Introduction to sports.
2. Introduction to basic rules of the sports taught.
3. Further development of skills related to the sports taught.
4. Development of more complex teamwork (Attack & Defence).

PROGRAM  FOR SEVEN & EIGHT YEAR OLD CHILDREN

This program teaches the children the intricate skills needed to play the six popular sports. Matches are played and drills used to continue to develop and prepare students for a lifetime of confident and competent sports participation.

1. Development of more advanced sports related skills.
2. Further development of the fundamental rules.
3. Learning how to play as a member of a team.
4. Applying advanced skills to a match situation.

Deprived of the crucial opportunities for exercising the body and the senses which prime the brain for learning in the early years many children are literally unfit to learn.
Playball offers your child a completely different sporting experience and learning environment. Movement is the child's first "language" and the more proficient they become in this first language, the better they will develop other powers of expression, exploration and development.

IMPORTANT:

When attending a class, the 2-3 year old classes are 45 mins and the 3-8 year old classes are 55 mins.

Please remember to send a drink along with your child to each class. No snacks allowed please.

Please drop your child off and pick them up afterwards. We do not allow scooters or baby buggies on the courts, so please leave them outside the courts and if you would like to watch your child, please watch them from a small distance.

Please make sure no siblings get in the way of the classes, so take them to the Playground near by or they can sit and watch with you.

The fees for these classes are in the ‘Contact us and Payment’ section of the website.

If you would like your child to participate in Playball lessons please feel to contact us anytime. We look forward to hearing from you.

TRIAL CLASSES

If you would like to do a trial class, you will need to email us the enrolment form, (which we will email to you once you enquire) with all your details before attending a trial class. This will then be confirmed by email and you may then join us for a taster session.

Please note that your first class is like a trial class, which is included in the fees if you wish to continue for the rest of the term. If not, it is for free. After the trial class, please email us to let us know whether or not you would like to join us for the rest of the term and we will then confirm spaces.

DROP IN SESSIONS

If a friend would like to join a class on a once off basis, it is £10.00 for this drop in session, which can be made by cash in an envelope and given to the coach on the day, but please notify us of this beforehand, so we can confirm spaces available. There are no drop in sessions for Playgolf, Playtennis, Playrugby or Playcricket.

MAKE UP CLASSES

If our classes are really full, we cannot exceed the maximum amount of children (8 – 2 year olds and 10 – for all other age groups) in a class.

Therefore please note that there are no make up classes, unless a Playball class gets cancelled by Gavin or Riona Marks.

If this happens, you will be notified by email to go to the website to find a venue, day and time that may suit you best to make it up. Or we will add a new class to the end of the term.

As classes are full, there may not be space in a class to make it up, so please email us to make sure there is space available in a class before going to a class and we will send confirmation.

REPORTS

Please note there are no reports done for the Autumn term. We do mid-season reports in the Spring terms and end of season assessments, reports and certificates in the Summer terms. These get handed out at the second to last lesson of the term, so please try and be at the class for your child to receive their award.

PLAYBALL TROPHY

The 3-8 year old children get a chance to receive a Playball trophy within the term, if they have listened, tried their best and had fun in a class. One child gets to take a trophy home once a week and return it the following week, so another child may have a turn. Please note there is only 1 trophy per class, so please make sure it is returned every week to make it fair for the others.  Please also do not ask us if you child can win the trophy, it is up to the coaches to decide and your child should get a turn within the term.
